RIDGE FIRE DISTRICT
NOTICE of ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Annual Election of the Ridge Fire District in the Town of Brookhaven Suffolk County, New York, will be held at the Main Firehouse located at 20 Francis Mooney Drive, Ridge, New York on December 10, 2024, between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 9:00 o'clock P.M., for the purpose of:
Electing one (1) Fire Commissioner for a term of five (5) years,
commencing January 1,2025.
Every candidate for District office must, at the time of this election, be a resident elector of the Ridge Fire District and shall have filed his name and request to be placed on the ballot in writing with the Secretary of the Ridge Fire District, at the Main Firehouse, located at 20 Francis Mooney Drive, P.O. Box 500, Ridge, New York, at least twenty (20) days prior to the date of the Fire District Election, this year no later than November 20, 2024.
Every elector of the aforesaid Town who shall have resided in the Fire District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding any election of Fire District officers, and who on the date of said election is otherwise qualified to vote and is registered under the provisions of Article 5 of the Election Law shall be qualified to vote for such officers.
Please note that only those persons who have registered with the County Board of Elections on or before the 23rd day before the Fire District election day shall be eligible to vote. In 2024, such registration must have taken place on or before November 18, 2024.

NOTICE of SPECIAL ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Ridge Fire District adopted a resolution on October 27, 2024 authorizing, pursuant to Article 11-A of the General Municipal Law of the State of New York, a public referendum of eligible voters of the Ridge Fire District, and pursuant to Sections 175, 176 and 179 of the Town Law a Special Election of the qualified voters of the Ridge Fire District in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, will be held at the Main Firehouse, 20 Francis Mooney Drive, Ridge, New York, on December 10, 2024 between the hours of 12:00 o'clock P.M. and 9:00 o'clock P.M., for the purpose of voting by ballot upon the adoption or rejection of the following proposition:
PROPOSITION
THE BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS OF THE RIDGE FIRE DISTRICT, TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, IN A RESOLUTION ADOPTED October 27, 2024, APPROVED AN AMENDMENT OF THE DEFINED BENEFIT LENGTH OF SERVICE AWARD PROGRAM, ADMINISTERED BY THE FIRE DISTRICT AND ESTABLISHED FOR ACTIVE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS OF THE RIDGE FIRE DEPARTMENT, TO EXTEND THE MAXIMUM YEARS OF SERVICE CREDIT FOR WHICH A PARTICIPATING ACTIVE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER MAY EARN A SERVICE AWARD FROM 40 TO 50 YEARS, AND THEREFORE THE MAXIMUM PROJECTED ACCRUED MONTHLY SERVICE AWARD FROM $800 TO $1,000, EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1,2025. THE CALENDAR YEAR 2024 CONTRIBUTION DUE FOR THE PROGRAM IS ABOUT $287,300.00, WHICH INCLUDES AN AVERAGE CONTRIBUTION FOR EACH PARTICIPATING VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER THAT EARNS SERVICE CREDIT OF APPROXIMATELY $1,496.00. THE ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION FOR THE AMENDED PROGRAM WILL NOT INCREASE AS A RESULT OF THIS AMENDMENT AND IS THEREFORE ESTIMATED TO REMAIN AT $310,157.00. THE AVERAGE CONTRIBUTION PER PARTICIPATING VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER THAT EARNS SERVICE CREDIT WILL BE APPROXIMATELY $1,615.40. THE DISTRICT PAYS ADDITIONAL ANNUAL ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS OF ABOUT $6,805.00 WHICH WILL NOT CHANGE AS A RESULT OF THIS AMENDMENT.
SHALL THE STATED RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS BEAPPROVED?
